In order to become an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), you will need to complete one of the state-approved LPN programs. These nursing education programs are offered at technical schools, community colleges, and through online LPN programs. In order to enroll in most of these LPN schools or programs, you will need to have a high school diploma or older students may enroll with a GED. However, in some cases, it is possible to enroll in some online LPN programs without a high school diploma, and some high schools may even offer the courses that you need to become an LPN.
Most of these programs take a year to complete. They include a variety of classes that will give you the skills that you need to work as an LPN and earn an LPN salary. The classes cover topics like intro to nursing, anatomy and physiology, pediatric care, ob-gyn nursing, introduction to pharmacy as well as things like nutrition and first aid. After completing the classes, you may be required to complete a practicum in a hospital or a private clinic.
After you have graduated from one of these NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination) is a necessary component to getting licensed as an LPN. The exam is taken on a computer and it comes in different lengths. It covers four major categories that you will have covered during your nursing education program. These categories include the following subjects: providing a quality care environment, promoting and maintaining good health, and maintaining physical and mental health.
Once students have graduated from their LPN schools and passed the licensure exam, they will be an LPN. At that point, they can start earning an LPN salary. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median yearly LPN salary is about $39,000. Most graduates of online LPN programs earned between $33,000 and $46,000. The bottom ten percent of graduates from LPN programs made just under $28,000 per year, and the top ten percent make over $53,000.
LPN’s who wish to earn more money than what is offered by an LPN salary can attempt to become RN’s. If they are interested in getting more nursing education, they can enroll in LPN to RN programs. LPN to RN programs are run by both hospitals and community colleges. These programs build on the information that students learned while they were in LPN schools. LPN to RN programs cover the same topics as LPN programs, but they cover them in more depth. After completing one of these programs, an LPN advances to an RN.
An RN is a registered nurse who may oversee the work of LPNs. In order to become an LPN or an RN, interested people should be compassionate. Because working with the sick and dying may be stressful, they should also be reasonably mentally healthy. They work as part of a team so they must be able to follow directions and work well with others. If they possess these skills, they can look forward to a rewarding and stimulating career.
